Liked this image of the uneven red brick wall with the big heavy door. This building is the Hydroelectric Building and Power Substation. In the late 1800's wood fuel for steam power to run the mill had run out, and the theory was that electricity could be transmitted over wires from a distance. A hydroelectric plant was built 13 miles from Bodie, and in November 1892 the first test was made. Some of the original poles still stand. They were installed in a straight line as it was feared the electricity would not be able to turn corners. |
