In the 1880's Bodie was considered to be a "sea of sin, lashed by the tempests of lust and passion." Killings occurred with monotonous regularity sometimes becoming an almost daily event. The fire bell, which tolled the age of the deceased when they were buried, rang often and long. Robberies, stage hold-ups and street fights provided variety, and the town's 65 saloons provided 'relaxation'. (photo courtesy of Jan) |
