The Standard Mine and Mill on the west slope of Bodie Bluff was registered in 1861. The mine yielded nearly $15 million over 25 years, and it's success caused the 1878 gold rush to Bodie. In those days gold prices ranged from $20 to $35 an ounce, and the price of silver ranged from 70 cents to $1 an ounce. The mill last operated in 1938. |
