| This is the original communal house frontal pole from Alert Bay. After nearly 60 years in Stanley Park, Vancouver, it had deteriorated badly, so in the mid-1980's, the Canadian Museum of Civilization agreed to house the pole in exchange for commissioning a replica for the park. Here the pole is displayed in front of a recreated communal house front complete with a copy of the original painting. The Raven's beak is the prow of a canoe. |
