This classic Haida-style pole was carved by Jim Hart. It's a replica of a pole that once stood against a house in Masset on the Queen Charlotte Islands. The original pole was purchased in 1901, and stood in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria for many years, until it came crashing down in a storm. Pieces of the original pole were given to the Museum of Anthropology and some are now displayed in the entry foyer. |
